RetroUI is a simple customization software that allows users to hide or get rid of the Windows 8 Modern UI entirely.
In earlier betas of Windows 8, the operating system would boot directly to the traditional Windows desktop. When Windows 8 Consumer Preview came out, that changed and the operating system would only boot into the Modern UI by default with no way to change it back.
RetroUI solves this by allowing users to hide or disable the Modern UI entirely. If you absolutely detest the Modern UI, RetroUI may make Windows 8 usable. Unfortunately, it isnt a true solution for making Windows 8 function more like the traditional Windows operating system.
RetroUI has the option to change the default login behavior of Windows 8 by booting directly to the desktop and unlocking the screen to the desktop instead of the Modern UI. This is good for those who dont want to be taken back into the Modern UI each time. RetroUI also has the option to completely disable the Modern UI, Charms, and hot corners. This severely impacts the usability of the operating system as there is no way to access a traditional "Start menu."
Overall, RetroUI is a half-hearted attempt at making Windows 8 more usable to those who want a more traditional Windows experience. To get the features you really want, youll have to upgrade to RetroUI Pro.
